RE: To clear or not to clear the snow

Wow, I was thinking 2-3K for that size. Could you please provide the site/vendor you got this from? Bought from Menards Home improvement store. Special ordered this size at 40'.

RE: To clear or not to clear the snow

I'd need one of them that's 35' to keep mine covered. I can only imagine the money that would take!!! This one is 40' long x 12' high x 14' wide. This should take yours fine and cost only $800.00. Additional pics from tonight. The snow pretty much falls off this without any assistance. http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t110/csijeep/100_0184.jpg http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t110/csijeep/100_0183.jpg http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t110/csijeep/100_0182.jpg

RE: To clear or not to clear the snow

I have a hard time imagining that 1 cubic foot of snow could be 15 lbs. None the less, I am glad I cleared it off, including the 8-inches of ice that made up the bottom layer. I definitely tore the cover a couple of time, but losing $300 would be worth saving an axle, or roof issues. I wish I cold find affordable covered storage up here in NH. The best deal I could find this year would have been $300 / mo Here's one way to keep snow off. :) This is early Winter pic here in N. Michigan. Actually, this pic was from early Nov. before we started getting a ton of snow that we have now. This has worked great. The trailed is tucked nicely inside. http://i1.tinypic.com/6p8qtye.jpg

RE: Need some towing advice..... about my TV

CSIJeep.... Do you know what the exact dry weight of your trailer is? We ordered ours similar to yours (it seems) loaded with all of the goodies! Rockwood dealer estimates it will be 3500lbs. Just curious for planning purposes. Thanks! If I remember correct, I believe it was 3598. Ours has all of the possible options you could get for the Roo 183. As 5S Dude stated, you will learn what is needed and how to pack after a couple of trips. We always seemed to over pack the first couple of trips, then we lighten up a bit.

RE: Need some towing advice..... about my TV

First of all, great choice in the trailer. We bought a 2008 Roo 183 last summer and love it. When we bought it we had a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee with I6 that was rated to pull 5000lbs. I towed the trailer home empty except for the fully loaded options that came with the trailer. The tow distance was about 80-90 miles and the Jeep pulled it Ok on the flat ground, but when I hit hills or encountered a semi, it was a different story. I would think you should be Ok if your careful with how you load it up for camping and take it easy. We opted for a more capable tow vehicle in a Dodge Ram with 5.7Hemi. As you've noticed V8's get nearly the same mileage as most V/I6's. My Jeep would get 14 town/17 highway, my Dodge Ram gets 14 town/17 highway when not towing. When towing, my Jeep would get 12-14 and my Ram gets right around 12. Good luck and happy camping. Welcome to the world of the Roo ;-)

RE: Thanksgiving camping trip w/pics

Well, do you like rubbing it in on us Northerners???? Mine has been tucked in it's Winter storage since late September. This is what my Winter storage looks like. There were some people camping this past weekend in the snow. http://i1.tinypic.com/6p8qtye.jpg I like your setup...how big of a trailer do you have tucked away under there? I have a 23b, and didn't know if the heigt w/ AC would fit under one of those (seems they're all around 12' high)?? I have a 08 Rockwood Roo 183 that comes in approx. 12' tall x 7.5' wide and overall all length approx. 23'. I had plenty of room to clear the AC, my bigger issue is with the width of the trailer and the door arch near the top. I had to be careful when backing the trailer in the shelter due to the door overhang wanting to catch my down spouts on the trailer. If I didn't have the down spouts I wouldn't have had any issues.

RE: Using a cover during winter storage. Should I?

Actually, I purchased it from Menards. www.menards.com I paid $799 plus tax. It's a roundtop shelter from Shelter Logic. http://www.shelterlogic.com/garages/ It was much cheaper getting it from Menards than anyone online.

Or you could do what I did. See pic below. My 08 Roo 183 is tucked nicely inside this 14'wide x 12'tall x 32' long. http://i1.tinypic.com/6p8qtye.jpg

RE: Rockwood Roo Width changing??

My 2008 Roo 183 is UPDATE 7.5' wide. Here's a pic I just went and measured my trailer. I stand corrected, my 2008 is an early 08 model and is only 7.5' wide. I guess for those wanting the narrower model 08, buy one that was mfg'd as an early 08. http://i1.tinypic.com/6qa9hck.jpg

RE: Looking for a smaller Hybrid

We purchased a 2008 Rockwood Roo 183 this year. We really like it. It has three queen beds. Ours is the top end Roo 183 with the all of the additional features. http://i7.tinypic.com/6eviioh.jpg

Change to digital TV make our camper antennas obsolete????

So with the Gov. change to digital TV broadcasting in Feb. of 2009, I'm assuming that the antenna on the roof of our campers will now be obsolete. I know that there are set top boxes that can be purchased so one can still receive the signal with analog TV, but is there anything that can be added so the antenna can still be used?

RE: What type of CAP ?

I'm wondering the same thing right now. I have a 2003 Dodge Ram QC short box and I looking to buy a topper. I have noticed that you can sometimes buy them used as I did with my previous two trucks. I got a great deal on those two. They were both ARE's and looked great even after several years. If anyone has one forsale in or near Michigan for a 2003 Dodge Ram short box, please let me know.

RE: Ridge Pole Springing Lower Door Seals When Closed

On our 08 Roo 183, I originally folded the bed bows inside the mattresses and left the mattresses folded on the shelf until I noticed the front matress was slightly wet and also some wear on the on the mattress. I now pull the mattresses down and store them elsewhere in the trailer and the bed bows are also stored elsewhere. There was some extra force to close when the everything was folded up together, but since I pulled everything down the minor leak and extra force to close are all gone. Oh, yes the owners manual really stinks as it doesn't provide much help.

RE: I've gone off the deep end.

Well I'm glad to see that we aren't the only ones who went overboard this year.:B We bought a 2008 Rockwood Roo and a 2003 Dodge Ram 5.7L Hemi. The Roo came one day and tried the truck out the same night and bought it the next day. Fortunately for us we bought our setup the week after Memorial Day so we got good use out of the setup this year. Now its unfortunate that Winter is fast approaching and only a few more good weekends for camping in Northern Michigan. Today, we dropped a good amount of cash down for a storage garage for the new camper. This has been one expensive Summer, but of course a GREAT SUMMER!!!!! You've got to take it out atleast once this Fall. Enjoy your setup, it will be one hard Winter. Our Setup

RE: More Newbie Towing questions....

We were very recently in similar situation. We bought a loaded 2008 Rockwood Roo 183 @ 3,394# according to sticker in the trailer. We towed it home with a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee I6 rated at 5,000# towing. I did have some performance upgrades on the Jeep. The Jeep just wouldn't cut it when towing up Northern Michigan hills, but performed well when on flat ground. On the hills, if I kept up my momentum, I was Ok, but if someone pulled out infront of me or made me slow down, I was at 40-45 mph matted to the floor. I just didn't want to kill my Jeep and decided to trade it in. As previously mentioned, it will tow your trailer, but definetly take it easy. We ended up buying a 2003 Dodge Ram QC with 5.7 Hemi. The truck pulls the trailer great and makes towing a more enjoyable. We towed our 2002 Coleman Utah PU rated @ approx. 3,100# when fully loaded with the Jeep and it performed great. The change to the Roo with the added height and wind resistance really made a huge difference. I really underestimated the difference in the wind resistance.
